We had to write in short fic today, and we were told to write about a page of setting-based story based on a place we know well. I wrote about Ohio State’s Oval.
HELLS FUCKING YES
The thing I love most about the day of The Game is that the pleasantries and greetings go from “Hello,” “Hey!” “How’s it going,” and the like and become “Fuck Michigan!” “Beat Blue!” and the normal cheers and screams of Buckeye nation
It’s a good day to slaughter some Wolverines
Last night, George Washington crossed Mirror Lake with his crew of tri-corner-hat-wearing rowers. A couple made out in the waist-deep water while a giant penguin splashed nearby.
“This is what being an Ohio State student is all about. You gotta jump in this goddamn lake. You gotta be a fun student. This is what it’s all about — you don’t jump in, we’re gonna lose!”
the highlight of my day was playing ukulele with alexis for a bunch of people waiting to vote
and while nobody ever applauded or anything, a few people told us we were great and one actually came up to us after everything and complimented us
one guy had a whole big conversation with us about music and stuff and that was cool
and we did a really solid cover of Love Me dead and Some Nights and Someone Like You and bullshitted a Four Chords Song and pulled out some Jason Mraz and Mumford & Sons in there
Alexis did her perfect rap thing and I did a bit of an awkward solo cover of the Rainbow Connection
We also got to not be sure of cursing and expletives and that was super fun oh man censorship is hilarious
but yeah, i was there for about 40 minutes, Alexis played without me for maybe 30 or 40?
and it was cool, it was super cool
because like, voting is rad, but helping to encourage other people to just wait out to ridiculous fucking line is even more rad
because we helped get a handful of people to not leave
and so we helped get even more votes into Ohio
and that’s just kind of cool
Hey, gang, Secretary (Grand Magistrate is also an acceptable title) here to do a post about our first meeting this past Sunday!
I haven’t really done minutes before, and I honestly didn’t think to take notes as the meeting progressed (NEXT TIME) but I’m gonna try to give the best summary I can manage, haha.
ΔΦΤΒΑ met in the grand hall of the Ohio Union at 7:30. There were only six or seven of us in attendance at the first meeting, which honestly isn’t too bad all things considered, and we all introduced ourselves.
We got down to business and watched a slideshow that laid out a few of the basic bylaws and out mission statement, all of which you can find on the Facebook page for the group.
We discussed plans and ideas, and had a handful of preliminary events presented to us, such as a trip to COSI, a group Gallery Hop, a movie night, and more. (Pst, click that link for event information!)
We also made sure to state that, for the time being (aka this academic year, at least), we’re a special interest student group and NOT a greek-letter fraternity. It’ll take a year before we’d be able to upgrade, however, there’s been discussion of whether Greek-ifying ΔΦΤΒΑ or whether we’ll just chill at “rad club” level, and this all depends on how the members end up feeling about the club, its status, etc. etc.
Basically, the meeting was a “who’s here, what do we wanna do, okay rad let’s DO THIS” sort of get-together. It was directly followed by everyone gushing about their broken hearts and pained feelings regarding the previous night’s Doctor Who episode.
So, I think that about does it. Sorry for the somewhat sup-par reporting, I’m sure it’ll get better as time rolls on. If it helps make up for it, have the doodle on my whiteboard:
Okay, that’s all I’ve got.
Grand MagistrateSecretary, out! DFTBA
Oh hey look I did a thing for that club I’m in
If you’re an Ohio State student looking to hang out with some nerdy-as-fuck people and do rad stuff like help out the Kaleidoscope Youth Center and Creative Commons (as well as local animal shelters and such), and do rad things like go to COSI or eat ice cream while watching Doctor Who and sobbing or whatever it is we’ve got planned, you should totally come to a meeting and say hi!

So the gang and I went to the Park of Roses and this happened and I love it. I’m still really proud of it and everyone should watch it okay that’s all I’ve got to say that isn’t in the video description
Man, seriously, people ought to watch this video I’m really proud of it

I feel like this might be cheating, but the Short North in general is one of my favorite places in Columbus. Of everywhere I’ve been in the city, I have absolutely no negative memories here, only awesome ones. Going to Zencha with friends, stopping to get Takoyaki while on the way to North Market. Going to small stores with people, drinking coffee at ridiculously early hours at Travonna. Getting cider at North Star. Everything I’ve done in the Short North has been fun and nice and awesome.
Runners-up go to: Gateway Film Center, Pochi Tea Station, Columbus Convention Center, Thompson Library, Morrill Tower, Ohio Union, The Oval

So, for those not in the know, tonight I’m planning on being part of a 12 hour long dance marathon to raise money for Nationwide Children’s Hospital.
In the average week, 322 kids will find out they have cancer. In the same week, 44 will have died of cancer.
But in those same seven days, 241 kids will find out they have been cured.
And tonight is all about fighting to make that number go up.
I’ve already raised a bit of money to participate, but if any of you want to donate, you totally still can! Just go here: http://tinyurl.com/ashmooBT and donate! Every bit helps!
And if you’re an OSU student or Columbus resident, you can drop in for a bit and cheer us on! 7:30-10:30pm is this evening’s hours, and 6:40-8:00am are tomorrow morning’s. Hopefully we’ll see a few of you at the Ohio Union for the best overnight dance party in the city!
